Mobile phones have become an essential tool in our everyday lifestyle. This piece of technology has taken over the way humans function and current statistics show that over 5 billion people in the world own a phone and more than half of that population are smartphones. In the current day and age, Millennials are known to be some of the biggest consumers of this specific technology showing that an average Millennial would spend almost 6 hours a day on their smartphones. The reliance on mobile phones has become human instinct for when we need to learn, do, discover, watch and or buy something is a phenomenon described as a micro-movement.

Businesses from all over the world have understood the drastic increase in usage of mobile phones and have used this method as an effective way to market their products. The key to a strong mobile marketing campaign is being able to provide the consumer with the right product at the right time.

An app that has been very successful and considered an essential on most individual's phone is YouTube. YouTube has encompassed all the thoughts that an individual could have and is the go to app when a person needs to know about a topic, how do to a certain activity and reviews on a product that they want to buy. The ability to provide that service that can be used by billions of people around the world to provide knowledge and opinions on just about anything is the reason as to why YouTube has had the success and growth we see today. Furthermore, YouTube has the function of building communities for a particular topic. The comment section in every video allows for feedback and advice that all users are entitled to see and comment on themselves. These are just a few reasons why YouTube has become as big as it has.

Do you use YouTube? If so how often and how long do you use it for?

  1. I use YouTube on a daily base as it is something that I can have on while doing something else and have it playing either a new song or just any entertainment video for me to watch. I wouldnt find myself using it for more than an hour a day or in one sitting.

    1. I too use YouTube everyday. Most of the days it is definitely for pure entertainment. Occasionally it would be used to learn something such as how to cook a certain recipe or how to do a specific exercise when I'm working out.

  3. I use to be a really avid user of Youtube. It was really convenient to watch as you were able to select the videos as opposed to watching t.v in which there was a predetermined schedule you had to stick to. I enjoy a range of videos particularly makeup and beauty related

    1. Absolutely Krystal. Although I cannot relate to you makeup and beauty hobby, I too do have hobbies I like to watch on YouTube such as working out videos and highlights of my favourite sports. I definitely use it more than T.V, I can't remember when the last time I watched T.V was.

    1. Most definitely. I think that YouTube has become an essential tool, especially for learning. There are so many channels that can assist a student on learning and some of them even come up with easier and more entertaining ways to learn things which can lead to memory of the topic to be easier than just when sitting in a boring classroom.

  5. Personally, I used youtube much more years ago than i do now. Although it is a great source of entertainment and way of sharing creation, the internet is constantly evolving and there are more efficient apps such as Netflix and other movie apps. Still great though!

    1. Absolutely, there are competing apps such as Netflix. However, I believe that YouTube is still as effective as it is because of the variety that it possesses. Netflix is limited to shows, movies, documentaries and films whilst YouTube can include those and educational videos on several life skills.
