The Rise of the New Aged Web 2.0
The wave of social media applications have caught the internet by storm and has become the main resource that businesses use to spread their message to a global number of audience. Through the advancements in technology, businesses have adopted the use of User Generated Content (UGC) as an effective tool in reaching their consumer market. User Generated Content is a any content such as images, text and video that are advertised on social media platforms intended to target the specific audience members that have searched a topic related to the product recently.
The popularity of social media users are significant among the younger generations. However, it has become so popular that even the older generations have played a part in adding to the billions of monthly users on each of these platforms. Analysis done by Logan Rinder (2017) demonstrates that Facebook is the most used platform by a significant amount followed by YouTube. Information on this will assist businesses in deciding which platforms to promote on which will ultimately lead to the most reach and gain for the effort and money they invest into their online advertisement campaigns.
The introduction into Web 2.0 gives users of the internet a more interactive experience in which they can participate in polls and surveys which provide organisations with an idea of the thought processes that go through a user and what they can target with the information created to increase the effectiveness of their advertisement to consumers of their product.
This new style of web encourages users to voice their opinions on several topics that they can relate to such as the type of bank they're with or the social media they best prefer and reasons to why that is. The overall change to the web can be quite intimidating but very effective in improving businesses and the products they provide to their consumers. Feedback is an essential part of an organisation's growth into delivering a product that their consumers are looking for and to provide full satisfaction for all their consumers.
Have you guys encountered any polls and surveys on social media websites? Do you believe they provide a purpose or are they just simply annoying? Let me know in the comments below

As annoying as people think surveys are, in the end it is for the developers of these businesses to further improve their product or services. This will make the experience for you as a consumer just by giving your opinion on what could be better or what could be changed which they can apply and give you a better overall quality of life.
ReplyDeleteI truly agree with everything you said there. I know that it can get really annoying having surveys and polls constantly popping up on your everyday usage of social media. However, the results of receiving better products that are more tailored to our needs and wants its super beneficial.
DeleteI completely hate polls and surveys. Yes i understand it is from a business perspective and it helps them develope, but target it at people who are interested in those specific industries. When we are on social media, we want to connect with people or watch things purely for personal entertainment. I am on social media to watch animals do funny things, not complete a survey on what age, sex, or how many hours i use a business' product a day.
ReplyDeleteI do see where you are coming from with your opinion. I think there is a fine line between when it is suitable to have that amount of surveys and polls and there's a point where it becomes very overwhelming for an everyday user of social media. In the end it is acceptable that you feel that way about it as you are not working for the business and you are not getting paid for it, so it begs the question of why you should be doing their research work for them for free and at a cost of taking up your time.
DeleteI have encountered heaps of polls, I think from a businesses it's obviously really important to gain consumer insights and know opinions. However, from a consumer perspective, it is sometimes very time consuming to complete so I find myself making excuses or clicking away before i do it.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Krystal, I personally find myself clicking away as well. If there is an option to skip then that will also be my first instinct to do so. I know that it assists in a company's growth and potentially doing things to make their product better for us. However, it is not in my best interest to do it day in and day out without getting anything in return for it.
DeleteAlthough polls and surveys help businesses improve their business by gathering information through feedback of users, they can be inconvenient and annoying when popping up at random times on social media.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with you. The growth of a business is very important, however, I do not feel as though it is my responsibility to help it grow if they don't serve a direct purpose to me. If it is a product I truly care about then I will consider completing a poll on it.
DeleteAs annoying as it may be for some people, personally i find polls a great way to allow the consumers to express their thoughts for a change. The polls and surveys are also very quick and easy so not time consuming at all! Instead of continuing without information of what needs to be improved, feedback has significantly positive impacts. great work
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to read my blog. I appreciate the opinion of how you appreciate being able to express your thoughts through these surveys. I definitely hope that products you use do get better through the comments that you have provided to the businesses and their products.
